Shakespeare revisited
Time: Every 3rd Thursday of the month, 2-4pm (first meeting on 21 March 2024, then 18 April, 16 May etc.)
Venue: The Plough Pub, 381 Lordship Lane, SE22 8JJ
This new Group will:
1. Discuss modern writers’ adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays (for example setting Lear as a wealthy landowner in Iowa and Macbeth as Chief of Police)
2. Attend some theatre events (inexpensive seats) where friends can join so everyone feels comfortable getting home
3. Watch the TV adaptation of the Hollow Crown series of history plays starring some of the UK’s finest actors
4. Read and/or watch the historical plays and tragedies/compare how accurately they represent history and how Shakespeare shapes our views, and
5. Read/watch the comedy plays.
