Art History 1
Time: Fortnightly on Friday 3pm – 5pm
Venue: Members' homes
Our main emphasis is on the visual arts: painting, sculpture and architecture. As well as looking at them aesthetically we also consider the socio-political, economic and cultural context of the time to enhance our understanding and appreciation. This means we have occasional sessions of music, e.g. jazz when studying the Harlem Renaissance or poetry when studying the Butler Yeats family, father and sons.
While we primarily study and discuss the visual arts, painting, sculpture, architecture etc, we also include sessions on other art forms such as music and poetry where relevant to the topic under consideration. Individual members give illustrated presentations which are then open for discussion by all.
