Map Reading
Day: Various
Time: 10.30am - 12 noon
Venue: Private home in East Dulwich and various local parks
Learn how to use a map and compass confidently in order to walk and plan a country walk without getting lost! Areas covered will be: planning routes, descriptions, measuring distance and climb, estimating times, map scales, and printing of routes. We will focus on planning walking routes using software on a computer and on smartphones. We will use OS Maps Software for country walks and Plot-a-Route for urban walks. As most of us will be familiar (perhaps) with Google maps we will take that as our starting point. Members who complete the course will have the confidence to plan and perhaps lead a U3A walk in both urban and country settings. This course does not run continuously. Approximately six sessions 'on demand' once three or four members express an interest. Day and time will be chosen to accommodate the majority of participants.
