Modern Art from 1900
Ever wondered what ‘modernism’ really means in terms of art history?
And what about the various ‘Isms’ – expressionism, surrealism, futurism, vorticism and such like?
The turn of the 20th century led many artists to challenge established conventions and to find new ways of expressing themselves.
These were turbulent and also innovative times in the history of art which, in due course, influenced much of todays’ contemporary art.
This new group will take an in-depth look at various forms of art (paintings, sculpture, texts and photography) as they developed in a number of countries.
There will be plenty of discussion together with small presentations by members as planned by the group.
There may also be occasional visits to art galleries when appropriate.
Meetings second and fourth Thursday in a month, 10.30-12.30 starting in September 2018
Venue : Private Houses
