We, the group, decided in September 2019 that we needed to do something different after spending 2018-2019 learning about the development of the symphony. The members decided to work their way through the alphabet in whatever manner they chose, be it by composer, key, instrument, orchestra, conductor, vocalist, soloist or indeed the title of the music. An exciting start with music connected to 'A' from an early English composer, Charles Avison, through music composed by Schubert for an arpeggione to the Amen from Handel's Messiah set the tone for what was to follow. Each contributor chooses the letter they wish to present but there is no pressure to do so. In fact, the topic has proved to be such a pleasure to research and present that there are few letters of the alphabet left from which to choose. This approach has resulted in a very eclectic mix of music, some well-known others less so. It is also proving to be very competitive with members looking to include as many references to their chosen letter as possible for each piece; long may it continue.
