Gardening
Usually meet 1st Monday of the month at 10.30 -12.30 ( except Bank Holidays when we might change the day/date)
Members mostly aged 70 + and 80+ and still generally mobile, but some ladies employ someone to help with their garden. Some are more knowledgeable than others.
No equipment is needed
No financial arrangements. On days out each person pays whatever entrance fee that may be applicable
We normally meet in each others homes, and person hosting that day provides tea/coffee and biscuits.
Meetings are usually informal to discuss plants, garden problems, and sometimes a quiz or a short talk by one of us. Depending on the season surplus plants are swapped or given to other members.
Communication is usually via a group email which all members are happy with. Whenever Beacon has been attempted it has not been successful.
On longer trips to visit gardens or shows we have shared cars.
The Gardening group has been oversubscribed for a few years. I get regular enquiries to join as people look at the lists of groups and do not appear to look further to see if there are spaces. Attempts have been made to try and start a 2nd group but they have not got off the ground.
