Wine Appreciation
We aim to meet during the last week of the month, theoretically on the last Friday though the day and timing does tend to change according to whether we are meeting at a wine merchants or in our gardens and members' availability
The plan is to mix group member research-led meetings, covering wines from specific supermarkets/countries/regions/grape varieties, with guided tastings provided by local wine merchants. We are now meeting face to face, either in gardens, inside or at a wine merchants. We are not experts but enthusiasts who wish to learn more about the wines we enjoy – and have a fun, relaxed evening with like-minded people. We expect to meet monthly, usually on the last Friday of the month around 6 or 7pm. We tend to go to wine merchants in the winter and meet in each others gardens/houses once the weather warms up. We have also had a visit to a vineyard in North Wales, Gwynlann which was extremely interesting with surprisingly good wines. We are limited to 12 in the group as that is the number of glasses you can get from a bottle of wine. However we are happy to assist anyone who would like to start a second group.
The group is self financed. Where a wine merchant/ vineyard has a charge, we each pay the merchant directly. When we are at each others’ houses, we split into pairs and each pair brings an appropriate bottle of wine, and accompanying nibbles. No money changes hands on these occasions.
We decide as a group where we go each month, and who organises the session if it involves a wine merchant.
We communicate mostly via Whatsapp but sometimes via email.
We do currently have 12 members but a new group Wine Appreciation 2 has been formed. They are currently looking for new members.
