The aim of the group is to promote a love of photography, to encourage members to learn about the subject, to develop their skills, and to enjoy a friendly social environment.
The group comprises about 35 members, varying from some very experienced to relative novices who meet 7 times a year at St Mary’s Without the Walls, Handbridge, Chester. (Jan., Feb., Apr., Jun., Sept., Nov., Dec) We meet on the 4th Monday of the month 2.00.- 4.00, except when it falls on a bank holiday. In that case we alter the date accordingly. St Mary’s has ample parking and is accessible by bus and is wheelchair friendly.
For our St Mary’s based meetings we try to integrate practical learning experiences, such as popping out to take photographs in the vicinity or setting practical tasks within meetings. We also follow the themes from the sessions in our visits out. We have 5 trips per annum out for practical sessions which can be local or at a distance.(Mar., May., July, Aug., Oct) Trips tend to be arranged for Monday mornings although they may spill into the afternoon, depending on distance travelled. Members usually meet at a café then disperse to take photographs. When possible the trips are wheelchair friendly but given the demands of photography this is not always possible. The offer of car sharing is usually available for trips.
At meetings we have use of a U3A digital projector and laptop and extension lead.
The fees for the photography group will be £10 per annum. This covers the cost of hiring the hall. Coffee, tea and biscuits are available for meetings, subsidised by the fees.
At the moment 3 members take responsibility for organizing sessions, selecting topics and arranging PowerPoint presentations of members photographs. Another member brings along the equipment. We are keen to encourage other members to contribute. Communication to the group is via email.
