Table Tennis
The Table Tennis group has been running since 2013 when a new member, who was a qualified coach, offered to get the group up and running. He was an inspiration to us but is no longer a member, and that's why we cannot take a complete beginner. However, if you have ever played, even if it was a long time ago, it's worth making contact as we don't have a waiting list at the moment.
We play at Chesterton Community Centre, a modern light and airy building with a hall that takes 4 table tennis tables and play mainly doubles due to the numbers wanting to play, which varies from week to week. We operate a sitting-out rota on popular days to make sure everyone gets an equal chance to play. The most important thing is that we move around continually whether warming up or playing games, as there is no better way of improving than by playing with some of the strongest players.
In the past, we had matches against some other u3a’s which were very enjoyable, especially when we won! This hasn't restarted after Covid.
We play every Thursday morning throughout the year, or very occasionally on a Monday morning when the hall is needed for other purposes, which just shows how keen we all are. We have a lot of fun and are a very friendly group, so if you are interested, do get in touch – my details are on the Membership card -or contact the Group Co-ordinator on the Contacts webpage.
