GROUP LEADER: We do not have a chairman as such, but communications with members are made through, Miriam Tresidder, who can be contacted via the Ru3a message page.
VACANCIES: At present there is no limit to the number of members. More members always very welcome.
DATE AND FREQUENCY: Members take turns in arranging visits, which are usually on the second Wednesday of the month. Now with more members, this should only need any member to arrange one visit every other year. All our visits are cancelled at the moment but the situation will be reviewed in line with the Government’s COVID legislation. Ordinarily we meet monthly from March to October, usually second Wednesday at 2.30 pm at whichever Church we are visiting. We do not visit during the colder winter months!
DESCRIPTION: The Church Visits Group was set up in Spring 2015 and currently has over 30 members including several couples.
The Group’s main intention is to visit CofE Churches in Rutland but we have already gone astray by visiting St Mary in Melton Mowbray, Launde Abbey, Oakham Baptist and others, so we are prepared to extend the boundaries a little.
In each case we try to arrange to be taken round by someone closely associated with the church who can tell us something about its history and architecture. In many cases this has been by an incumbent minister, but sometimes by a lay person who may know a little more. At Exton Hall we were privileged to be guided by the son of the owner, so we had a very special personal welcome.
Reports on our visits are included in the Rutland u3a Newsletter.
