2024

SATURDAY 27TH APRIL AWAY DAY OR SATURDAY & SUNDAY DURHAM.
We can take the 8.44am train from Preston to Durham, change at York, arriving Durham 11.55am. Return on the 19.00pm train from Durham, again change at York, arriving Preston 10.28pm. £33.60 with a railcard, £51.10 without.
We would still have 7 hours in Durham, plenty of time to see the Cathedral, walk around the centre/along the river and enjoy a meal before getting the train home.
For an overnight stay the best city centre room deal (excluding breakfast) is £110 at the Travelodge for 2 sharing. Problem is they only have a King size bed and a pull-out bed. The only other reasonably priced option on that weekend, is the Premier Inn, Durham East which is a 2.5-mile taxi ride from the station. That would be £103, 2 people sharing a twin room, excluding breakfast.
