The cycling group are starting up again!!!
RESUMPTION OF CYCLING FROM APRIL 2021
The Government’s latest regulations permit up to six people from different households to meet outdoors for exercise purposes, as long as social distancing is observed.
This will not be an appropriate activity for some members. Members who are vulnerable, have health conditions or are living with someone who does, they should consider carefully whether the ride is appropriate for them. Clearly anyone with Covid-19 symptoms, or anyone living with someone who has symptoms should not join a ride. All of us have a responsibility for our own health and the health of others and we need to be aware of potential risks.
There is a link to a blank “Cycle Group Attendance Sheet” for Ride Leaders to use.
Members who wish join a cycle ride must book in advance with the Ride Leader. This will be done on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Until Government Guidelines change, we will be riding in groups of up to 6 (including leader), members who do not book should not go to the start of the ride. The Leader will not allow them to join the ride(s).
If you click on the link “Risk Assessment Cycle Group Leaders”, you will find a template that will be reviewed by the ride leader prior to the ride. All Riders are asked to download the “Risk Assessment Cycle Group Participants” and read it. Riders will be asked at the start of each ride to confirm that they have completed their own personal checklist, i.e. read the document and taken the decision that the ride is appropriate for them.
If there is anything, you are not sure about you should contact the Ride Leader.
We operate a sedate cycling group where lycra is not de rigeur! Yes we may go upto 16 miles on our jaunts but we take our time and proceed at the rate of the slowest cyclist. We always arrange our routes to visit a café where we partake of coffee/tea/cake/ice cream/fish and chips/etc. Basically, anything they have to offer!
We ask that you have cycled before but emphasise we are 'recreational' cyclists not budding professionals! A bicycle rack for your car would be a bonus as we are venturing further afield having done all the routes from St. Cuthbert's.
Why not give us a go then? We are keen to build up our numbers from the small group who currently journey out each month.
The group meets on the third Wednesday of the month through spring/summer/autumn.
Please always ring the leader at 10am on the day to check if the ride is on if the weather is looking inclement.
Next session in 2021:
Day/Date: Wednesday 21st April 2021
Ride Leader: Norman & Pat Green
Meeting Point: St. Cuthbert's Church, Lytham Road, Preston.
Parking: on street parking
Note: We will be riding in groups of 6 (including leader)
Description of Route: A circular 12 mile ride.
The outward route will include a short stretch along the Lancaster Canal from bridge 14 (Hollins Grove) to bridge 19 (Sidgreaves Lane). We will then take the country lanes to Roots Café. Cakes and drinks will be served outside in a seating area. The return journey will be along country lanes to join the canal at bridge 22 (Lea Lane). This stretch of the canal passes the area where there is bridge construction over the railway and canal, as part of the new Preston Western Distributor Road. We leave the canal at Bridge 19 (Sidgreaves Lane). Cycle back along Cottam Way, up the cycle path towards the Ancient Oak Pub, turning right through the underpass to cross Tom Benson Way. Then through the Ingol estate to join Tag Lane and ride through Cadley, back St Cuthbert's.
The ride is suitable for anyone who can ride the distance. The only awkward section for some riders could be the steps down from Canal Bridge 22 as due to Covid restrictions they will need to do this unaided. The gravel path is very narrow along the canal for about ¼ mile, it then opens out again.
