Poetry Reading
Meets at 10.30 on 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Before each session we research poems previously agreed by the group on a particular theme or topic. We then select one to read.
The themes vary widely and can include topics such as Aspects of Life, New Beginnings or Marriage.
Although most of the poems chosen are modern, there are occasional selections from 19th century works. Shakespeare and even the classics.
After each poem is read out, we usually have an animated discussion about what we enjoyed about it and it’s meaning and significance for us.
This can often be quite therapeutic! However, the aim is not to analyse the poem technically and knowledge of poetry writing techniques and forms is definitely not required. Above all, we meet to simply enjoy poetry!
