Co-ordinator: Margot Harvey
Leader: Ian Hatwell
Meetings: Wednesday, 10.00 – 12.00 noon, Castle Street Centre - Jan 12, Jan 26, Feb 9, Feb 23, March 9 , March 23
All other Wednesdays on Zoom.
This is not a taught group but Ian Hatwell, our leade is on hand to clarify grammar, common usage, and any queries we may have.
The group is probably not suitable for absolute beginners, but there is a wide range of linguistic ability and the atmosphere is informal, friendly, and fun!
The format varies – sometimes a whole group discussion on a prepared topic; often we take turns to talk about something of interest (prepared or improvised); at other times we split into small groups of 3 or 4 to chat; occasionally we play Italian Scrabble or do crosswords. We are open to anything which helps us improve our listening and talking skills and widens our knowledge of the amazing country that is Italy.
After meeting weekly on Zoom since April 2020, in September we began to meet again at Castle Street on a fortnightly basis, alternating with a Zoom session. The system has worked well with some members only meeting on Zoom, others only at Castle Street, and others, both. Several enthusiastic Italian speakers have joined us this Autumn and, Omicron permitting, we are looking forward to continuing to share our enthusiasm for Italy and Italian in 2022.
