Themes in World History
Co-ordinators: Chris Alcock and Chris Shearin
Meetings: Monthly, 1st Monday afternoon – 2pm, Abbot Hall Social Centre (Betty Limb Room)
We aim to study and discuss a range of themes which impact across states and regions and potentially involve the whole planet. Themes could be from any period of history but are more likely to fall into the modern era.
Possible subjects include globalisation, imperialism (European or otherwise), nationalism (culturally and in terms of the nation state), historic pandemics, the Cold War, environmentally-driven conflicts, feminism, global migrations, and comparative systems of government (e.g. democracy versus authoritarianism).
If you are interested in joining us for any of the meetings please send us a message.
UPDATE JULY
There will be no meetings of the group in August or September 2022.
We will produce a programme of subjects for the autumn in due course
