Arty Crafty group
New members are always welcome – we are a very friendly and welcoming group and we all learn something from each other regarding various different crafts.
Eight members gathered together to continue with their various occupations. Many of the group had been knitting triangles for the Guinness World Record attempt at the Longest Knitted Bunting challenge, to be judged at the Devon County Show in May!
Sandy had kindly volunteered to collect the items and deliver them for us to Exeter. We are all continuing to knit as she will be collecting any further efforts at the Monthly Meeting in April. so plenty of time to knit a few more triangles.
One of our group had made an interesting hedgehog shaped cushion, which was passed around and admired. The group has many talented crafters and we all learn from one another, so if anyone is interested in joining the group, please put your name and contact email address on the board at the next monthly meeting. New members always welcomed by our friendly group.
The first meeting of the new year for the group saw nine of us crowded around my dining table, all of us busy with our various crafts – knitting, card making, crochet and sewing. The usual crafting, chat, coffee and biscuits makes an hour and a half session seem like five minutes and everyone seems to enjoy these ‘get-togethers’.
Some of the group are intending to knit bunting to compete in a Guinness world record attempt by Devon County Show and any help will be gratefully accepted.
As the group continues to grow, it may be that we will need to relocate our meetings, either to Roborough Village Hall, or the Woolwell Centre and this will be discussed at the next meeting, which will be on Thursday, 6th February, 2020 at my house (for the time being). Such a relocation would require an increase in the donations currently given towards the cost of tea and coffee, in order to cover the cost of the hall hire.
Our December meeting was celebrated by eight members enjoying mince pies and clotted cream with their coffee and tea. The usual crafts were under way with crochet and knitting being the most in evidence, while Val worked on her beautiful embroidery. Other sewing projects were also being undertaken and the group is always interested in learning new ideas from each other.
We had the biggest turnout of Craft group members this year, when nine of us met up at Sarah’s house to continue with our various crafts, which meant extra chairs had to be brought down to enable us all to sit around the table together.
Sandy showed us the beautiful quilt she had made for a baby’s cot, Ginny had made a couple of very different Christmas tree decorations and kindly passed on the instructions to other members of the group so that they could have a go as well.
Knitting, crochet, embroidery and Christmas pine cone decoration were all the different arts we engaged in, with a good bit of chat, coffee, tea and biscuits.
New members always welcome, so put your name on the list at the General Meetings and we look forward to seeing you.
