This group will be re-starting in February 2020. Check out the events page for the new date.
Four of the five members met up at Sarah's home on 3rd September and started reading a different play by Alan Ayckbourn, 'Invisible Friends'.
We read the first Act and hope to finish the book at our next meeting, which will be on Wednesday, 2nd October at Jill's house at 2pm.
Four of the five members of the group met up at Marilyn's house to finish reading the Alan Ayckbourn trilogy, 'The Normal Conquests'.
Despite having to read two characters each at various times, and quite often forgetting who we were - we managed to get through to the conclusion. It was a very funny play and we hope to read some more of Ayckbourn's plays in the future - we all like a laugh!
A visit to TR2 is also planned, probably for sometime in November, when we hope they will be preparing for the pantomime - Oh yes, they will!
The five members of the group met up at Jill's house on Thursday, 18th July to continue reading the Trilogy 'The Norman Conquests' by Alan Ayckbourn.
The second play of the trilogy,' Living Together', seemed funnier than the first one, probably because we are getting to know the characters a bit better now. We managed to complete the second play and at our next meeting we hope to get through the final play in one session.
The five regulars met at Marilyn’s house to start reading the Alan Ayckbourn trilogy of plays – The Norman Conquests. We all took a role each, but as there were six characters, Beryl took on the additional character when it appeared, as well as her first character – I’m amazed she didn’t get confused!
Only four members met up on Hallowe’en at Marilyn’s house, as our other members were unable to make the meeting.
It was agreed, therefore, not to practice our main sketch, but to read through some of the scripts that Marilyn had available. The first play was for four people – all women! So Mike had to hone his acting skills in the role of Linda. The play was entitled ‘All Men are Brutes’ – with apologies to Mike. However, it was very funny and we enjoyed reading it out aloud, before Marilyn made tea and coffee with biscuits and cake to revive us.
Then we decided to reprise the script that we read last month – Curses, Foiled Again – and although we still got a bit confused between the character and the actor’s lines – made worse by each of us having to play two different parts – it was good fun and a laugh, despite knowing the punch lines!
Hopefully, at our next meeting, on 29th November at Sarah’s house, we will be having a dress rehearsal in preparation for the U3A Chistmas Party on 13th December.
