Play Reading
This group meets monthly, usually in the various member's homes.
MARCH
Six ladies met up at Jill's house to read a new (to us) play by Constance Cox entitled Lord Arthur Savile's Crime'. We only managed to read the first two of the three acts in the time allowed, but it was quite funny, if a bit old-fashioned. Too many characters for the six of us and we had to keep changing roles to avoid talking to ourselves at times, but it all adds to the fun.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, 28th May, at 2pm at Sarah's house, when we hope to finish this play and possibly start on another.
FEBRUARY
Marilyn kindly hosted our meeting this month and we read the last of the Willy Russell plays - Stags and Hens. Set in Liverpool the language was spicy, to say the least, but it was also very funny. There were far too many characters for our little group, but we managed with each one taking men and lady parts. Our next meeting will held at Jill's house on Tuesday, 19th March at 2pm.
JANUARY
Six members met at Beryl's house to read another Willy Russell play - Blockhouse Park, which, unexpectedly, was very funny in parts. As usual there were too many characters for the people reading the parts but we managed very well, having had lots of practice! Our next meeting will see us reading the last play in the set by Willy Russell and hope to enjoy it as much as the previous ones. We will be meeting at Marilyn's house at 2pm on Tuesday 20th February.
OCTOBER#
There were only 4 at this month's play reading; so from a book of Willy Russell's plays we selected 'Educating Rita'. This was a 2 hander with several scenes over 2 acts. We swapped around between characters and a narrator between the scenes.
An enjoyable read and what a character Rita was!
We have more plays to choose from for the next meeting.
