Map Reading & Navigation
This is a new group, currently being led by Fran Tromans. It will meet monthly on the second Thursday.
MARCH
Our March meeting was a walk from Long Ash to Berra Tor. The weather was appalling. We had mist and torrential rain and everyone was happy to be out getting some exercise in cheerful company.
The February 2024 meeting took place in Fran’s house as it was a very wet day. The group of 6 learnt how to work out grid references and plot compass bearings. We used the map area of Roborough Down , which was once the site of a decoy runway and still has some remaining light bases for our practice. The next meeting in March will most likely be a walk of around 4 miles visiting Berra Tor and learning how to use handrails for Navigation.
The first meeting of the newly formed Map Reading and Navigation group took place on Thursday 11 January 2024. Seven members of the group met at 1.30 pm at the Woolwell Centre. As the weather was dry, cold and bright an outdoor activity was planned. The group had maps and plans of the proposed new Woolwell Housing development and walked part of the boundary whilst imagining what it will look like in the future. We finished off with a nice warm cuppa in the centre. Our 2 mile walking route is as shown.
