Arts Appreciation Group

Our Arts Appreciation Group covers Arts in a variety of forms including painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, textiles and digital technology. We will try to reflect the interests of our members and further our knowledge by using outside speakers and calling on our members to research and give presentations.

Meetings are on the third Thursday of each month. Presentations in Longhirst Village Hall start at 10.30am preceded by coffee at 10.15am.

18th April, Visit to Edinburgh: "Shifting Vistas,250 Years of Scottish Landscapes. City Arts Centre, Alexander Nasymth, John Lavery, S.J. Peploe, William Gillies, Joan Eardley, Victoria Crow, and Scottish National Gallery or Modern Gallery One.
16th May,Marie Dooley "The Japanese Connection" Katsushcka, The Japanese influence on Western Art.
20th June, Joint summer outing to Galashiels, "The Great Tapestry of Scotland,"
18th July, Members choices.
15th August, Laing Art Gallery Exhibition "The Fighting Temeraire" and other works by Turner.
19th September, Chris Tipple "The Victorians at Work and Play" William Powell Frith. Ralph Hedley and Arthur Sullivan bring art and music to the people.
17th October John Ollerton "Lutyens"
21st November, Derek Johnson Topic t.b.c.
19th December, Christmas Coffee Morning with DVD t.b.c.
