The group decides on an area of history to study for the next year or so.
Members of the group decide on a topic in that area about which they wish to talk. They research the chosen topic and present it to the group.
We have access to a projector and can use laptops for Powerpoint presentations if desired.
We are currently exploring the history of Ireland. After an overview of the history, we have looked at the Great Famine and its political background, culture and heritage, The Burren, The Magdalene Laundries, Emigration and the Irish Diaspora, the artist Jack B Yeats, and the Easter Rising 1916.
In October we will be looking at Charles Trevelyan, the Home Office civil servant and his dealings with Ireland during the Famine.
In November the aftermath of the Easter Rising up until Independence in 1922 will be explored, followed by a look at Eamon de Valera, and a concluding overview of Ireland since independence.
