The Garden Group is for everyone who loves gardening and visiting gardens. The programme consists of talks and demonstrations during the winter months and garden visits through the summer. We try to find unusual gardens and private gardens where the owner can show us around or famous gardens guided by the head gardener. In this way we hope to learn and gain inspiration from experts so as to add to the enjoyment we get from gardening.

Our programme of visits in the summer of 2022 took us to some beautiful and very different gardens in our region. In May we visited John Richard's alpine garden in Hexham, followed by The Physic Garden overlooking Devil's Water. Both were informal and full of fascinating plants, By contrast, our June visit to Lambshield, also near Hexham, was formal but stunning and wonderfully well maintained. In July we enjoyed a private garden in Hepscott, followed in August by the spectacular walled garden at Capheaton Hall on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, the visit to Max Eaton's garden in September was spoilt by rain and cold winds.
The harvest supper in October organised in conjunction with the Food Appreciation group was a great success and will be repeated in future years.
