Psychology is defined as 'the scientific study of mind and behaviour'. This broad definition means that almost any area of human functioning and behaviour could be looked at! As you read our topics below you will see how diverse the subject is.
Sessions are run on an interactive basis seeking to blend participants' personal experiences with some psychological theories.
Around 30 members attend the sessions and enrich them with their insights, questions and humour.
Since we began in February 2018 we have looked at topics such as: Freud, Time Psychology, Mindfulness, Transactional Analysis, the Free Will-Determinism Debate, Music Psychology, Criminal Psychology, Social Change, Depression, Erik Erikson's Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development, LGBTI+ terminology, the Psychology of Decision Making, Maslow's Hierarchy, the Psychology of John Lennon, Dream Psychology, Political Psychology, Personality, Emotions, Relationships, Religion, Male-Female differences, the ideas of Carl Jung, Cognitive Errors. and Eating Behaviour.
A diverse and fascinating subject. Future topics often come from suggestions raised by members or issues arising during meetings.
We only meet on alternate months. In April 2024 we look at Political psychology - very topical in a big election year!
