Short Tennis and Table Tennis
Taw U3A Groups with interest in Bats, Rackets and Balls
Group Leaders: - Yvonne Geary and Julia Taylor
Short Tennis, or Mini Tennis, is played on a Badminton-sized court with shorter racquets than those used for ordinary tennis and with slightly softer balls. The rules we use are the same as for tennis.
We have two courts at the Barnstaple Leisure Centre and play every Wednesday during term-time from 10:30am to 11:30am.
Nicky Heading will be helping me run the Short Tennis group from now on. Nicky is a member of Barnstaple U3A but also an associate member of Taw.
To cover the cost of court hire and balls, a charge of £1.00 per session is made.
Anyone who is interested in playing should get in touch with Yvonne or Julia.
Group Leaders: - Carol and Brian Langley
This is a very active group which encourages eye and body co-ordination. We have two tables and the sessions last for two hours every Thursday morning at the Tarka Tennis Centre at 9:30am til 12:00 noon. It is a very pleasant way to keep fit.
Having surgically removed all electronic gadgetry from my two grandsons, thankfully I can hand them back to their respective teachers to cope with. The one advantage, of course, of the children returning to school is that you could choose which of the two table tennis tables you would like to play on should you feel the need.
