Creative Writing

Creative Writing

Creative Writing first started in the early 90’s when Sandy Saunders and some likeminded members of Taw U3A decided to form the Group. Their aim was to write about their experiences, opinions or simply to escape into the world of fantasy by putting pen to paper.

I joined the group 5 years ago and it is now one of the highlights in my calendar. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month in each other’s houses on a rota basis where we have coffee and biscuits. This is followed by a lively discussion about whatever has made us laugh, cry or simply see red since the last meeting. Then we read our stories, poems or limericks on whatever subject was decided upon the previous month.

There is no criticism of any member’s work as that is not the aim of the Group and it has become as much a social gathering as it is an opportunity for members to express their literary skills.

No previous experience of writing stories is needed, but just a willingness to take part and a love of literature.

The Creative Writing Group worked hard on their keyboards writing stories during Lockdown, and they are sharing them with us here. They have now produced several booklets and these are links to but a few - Creative Writing - January 2021, Creative Writing - February 2021, Creative Writing - March 2021, Creative Writing - October 2021 and Creative Writing - November 2021. From now on they plan to produce 2 bumper edition of their work each year, so keep a look-out for them.

Several members had fun during Lockdown painting pebbles from the beach. Then they turned their hands to Flower Pot Painting and even painting trees. Whatever next? Photographs are shown here so that we can all enjoy them. They got busy with their paintbrushes again. This time it's 'A Rainbow', 'Heart' and 'A Walk in the Park'. All is revealed in the June offering from the Creative Writing Group. In the woods of Whiddon Valley Tree Creepers and Dippers were spotted, as you will see from the painting of them.
