Drama and Play Reading
Welcome to the information about this interest group, which we call Drama and Play Reading…though I have to say that our focus is mostly on the Play Reading!
We meet fortnightly on Monday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 in St. Mary Magdalene church hall in Brampton. The meetings sort of fit in with school terms, so that we have Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks. Over the 20 years that this group has been open for Hu3a, there has been an amazing response by the members to the study of a wide range of play texts.
We have been allowed to borrow sets of plays from St Ivo School for the whole year and the selection has been very varied, as well as challenging. (My big thanks to the English Department of that school).
Imagine how interesting it is to engage in such a range of texts as Othello and Equus, The Importance of Being Ernest and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, or Educating Rita and Talking Heads. The response by the members is so individual and everyone expresses personal views with great strength.
I am grateful to the Drama Group in Huntingdon for their recent offer to lend us play scripts in the future.
I am always impressed by the enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge within this group. Does it appeal to you? Feel free to contact me if you have any queries, using the contact details in Upstream or click the link to send me a message.
