Drama and Play Reading
Welcome to the information about this interest group, which we call Drama and Play Reading…though I have to say that our focus is mostly on the Play Reading! We are not Actors, though we do occasionally do a bit of fun performing, as much for ourselves as for an audience!
We meet fortnightly on a Monday morning, from 10.30 to 12.00, at a venue with a good size hall in Godmanchester. The meetings sort of fit in with school terms, so that we have Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks.
Over the 18 years that this group has been open for HU3A, there has been an amazing response by the members to the study of a wide range of play texts.
We are allowed to borrow sets of plays from St Ivo School for the whole year and the selection has been very varied, as well as challenging. (My big thanks to the English Department of that school).
Imagine how interesting it is to engage in such a range of texts as Othello and Equus, The Importance of Being Ernest and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, or Educating Rita and Talking Heads. The response by the members is so individual and everyone expresses their personal views with great strength.
We don’t do much of what one might call “Performance” but, if we do, those who observe us are very Polite and Supportive!! Many thanks.
I find the whole year of involvement so stunning, as well as challenging. Does it appeal to you? Feel free to contact me if you have any queries.
