Covid-19 news#
Both the Madrigal Groups are in group contact with each other, apart from the one member of both groups who does not have internet connection. Another member who is in both groups , is putting some of our more challenging songs onto computer and linking it up with YouTube, so that we can practise and sing-along-alone. When we meet again we will be note perfect! There are also several singing groups on the internet and some of our members are singing with those. Lots still going on. However long this takes I am confident that our enthusiasm will mean that the groups will still be viable. However, I fear that our numbers may be depleted, but pray not. Strange , scarey times. At present the SSA group are 10 women who sing unaccompanied madrigals, rounds and other three and four part songs. We meet at my house in Puddingmoor, or other members' houses, twice a month.
A new SATB group is starting on January 8th 2018. At present we have one bass and two people for each other part (TAS). We will be singing unaccompanied like the other group.
New Singers are welcome , especially men in the SATB group. We aim at having 12 in each choir, a maximum of 15, i.e a balance of 3 people for each part. There is no pressure of 'being a good singer', this isn't solo singing, but you do need to be able to read music to an extent and to be sensitive to the whole ensemble. It is good fun and we strive to make the nicest sound we can and improve. Apart from the Christmas U3A meeting for the SSA group, there is no pressure of rehearsing for performance. (unless after Christmas we change our minds!) Each week we all choose what we are going to sing from the music provided and the leadership/conductor role is shared in the group. Everyone's contribution to making a beautiful sound and interpretation is valued.
We each pay £1 a week which covers a cup of tea and music.
