This self-help group is currently following the BBC TalkFrench2 programme, and meet in turn, at members homes. Please use the 'little bird' to contact Jerry for more information.
The group is currently nine in number and we have agreed that this is as big a number as can be coped with, partly because as a self-help group learning requires a lot of interactions and these tend to be in inverse proportion to the size of the group and partly because we meet in members homes in rotation and physical space is limited. The level of the group’s language ability or inability is that of people with ‘O’ Level French from fifty years ago which has remained unused or virtually so since then.
The host takes responsibility for leading each session. Although we focus and work quite hard in session this does not prevent us from enjoying a cup of tea and a biscuit and even on occasion a glass of prosecco; (a habit from which we should desist perhaps? ). We have not yet discussed the thorny issue of homework and there seems to be a tacit agreement that we don’t do homework. Group members suggest improvements to others grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in delicately inventive terms and so we all get on very well together.
