Welcome to the Ripon U3A walking group.
We have some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain on our doorstep and many people would like to get out and see more of it. Hopefully this group will help people do just that and see places they have never seen before. My role is to coordinate the walks programme and also lead some walks.
There are now over 70 names on the group's list and the group relies on people to offer to lead walks, with the walk leaders deciding on the dates, length and walking area, which hopefully gives a varied programme of walks.
At the present time, due to Covid-19 restrictions, it has not been possible to put together a 6 month walks programme as previously, and the walks have been advertised with a few weeks notice by email and in the monthly newsletter. It is anticipated that in a few months time, the group will be able to meet and compile a longer walks programme.
From 17th May 2021, outside groups of up to 30 can meet but the actual number on each walk will be determined by the walk leader, taking into account parking facilities and social distancing around stiles and gates. It is essential that a booking for a walk is made with the walk leader, who will keep a list of walkers and contact numbers for 21 days after the walk.
Every walker is expected to take their own hand sanitiser and face mask and to observe the social distancing rules. Sharing of transport is discouraged at the present time.
If you are willing to volunteer to lead a walk, can you please email me the following information:-
- Name of the person leading the walk
- Leader's contact details- land line and mobile if possible
- Date of walk
- Start time of walk
- Exact place of start of walk preferably including a map reference
- The length of the walk and some indication of climb and terrain
- Whether packed lunch is needed or a drink/snack is sufficient
Hope we will have many enjoyable walks in the future
