Walking
Welcome to the Ripon U3A walking group.
We have some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain on our doorstep and many people would like to get out and see more of it. Hopefully this group will help people do just that and see places they have never seen before. My role is to coordinate the walks programme and also lead some walks.
There are now over 60 names on the group's list and the group relies on people to offer to lead walks, with the walk leaders deciding on the dates, length and walking area, which hopefully gives a varied programme of walks.
The walks do vary, from 4 to 8 miles and are local to Ripon or we go further afield into the Dales or over on the North York Moors. We take packed lunches for longer walks or arrange to have lunch at an appropriate pub, but always have at least a drink and snack with us.
With the Covid-19 restrictions lifted, there are now no restrictions on numbers on walks but every walker is expected to continue to carry a facemask and hand sanitiser and to be aware of others. We try and share transport where required, to assist those without transport, and we're also trying to restrict the number of cars used for environmental and fuel cost reasons.
If you would like to join the group, please phone or email and I can provide up-to-date information about future walks. We have started having a lunch again, every 6 months, in order to put together a walks programme and our current one takes us up to August 2022.
Hope we will have many enjoyable walks in the future
