During the time of coronavirus restrictions the Family History Group meets on Thursdays at 2pm on Zoom, about twice a month. We have drawn up a full calendar of dates which has been sent to members and invitations are emailed to members a day or two before the meeting. We have merged with the Harrogate U3A Family History group for the duration of the present circumstances to enable us to have occasional outside speakers and to fund a Zoom subscription. We will from time to time ask for a small payment to cover our expenses and this is likely to be no more than £10.
Our members have ancestors in many parts of the UK, with a few who have family in more distant parts of the world. We have recently had another talk on DNA testing for genealogy, and some have already embraced this new aspect of their research. We hope to have a speaker once a month, either an external speaker or one of our own members. There will also be time for more informal discussions on Family History topics and we intend to provide an opportunity for more general chat, which many of us are missing at the moment. One-to-one help is available if you need it to get up and running on Zoom.
