Visiting Buildings of Interest
This group is open to every current member of Ripon & District U3A, there is no enrolment fee and you can come on as many, or as few, visits as you choose. Visits are organised by Dorothy Taylor and Launa Woodruff (firstname.lastname@example.org). We welcome your suggestions for places to visit.
Coach travel from Ripon gives everybody a chance to go, and often there are on-site guides to enable all to see and learn everything about our destination. By block booking entry tickets we obtain concessions and keep all necessary costs low. We attempt to visit 2 or 3 places when we travel by coach to make the most of our journey.
In the last four years we have visited: Alnwick Gardens and Barter Books; Bede’s World and Hartlepool; Beverley and the Minster; Blackwell House and Sizergh Castle; Bowes Museum; Castle Howard at Christmas; Clumber Park and Southwell; Chatsworth House at Christmas; Dove Cottage and Grasmere; Durham - Magna Carta exhibition with lecture and lunch; Gateshead, the Sage and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens; Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle; Holker Hall and Cartmel Priory; Saltaire & Salts Mill; Scampston and Jacksons world; Sunderland National Glass Centre and Monkwearmouth; Tatton Park Mansion at Christmas, with Boundary Mill; Thackwray Museum and Hepworth Gallery; Towneley Hall and Arley Hall; Whitby Abbey and the Story Teller.
All our visits - even the guided tours - include some free time, and there are always places to shop and to eat. We aim to leave Ripon in daylight and be back early evening. On longer journeys we include comfort breaks.
We aim for a group of 30 to 40 maximum, so please book early, and PLEASE use the booking form - we DON'T take verbal arrangements as memories can (and frequently do) fail. Refunds are not generally available as we must cover our travel costs, but if in doubt, check with us. We do not give tickets; please report to the visit leader before boarding the coach so we know if anyone is missing; also ensure that you have the mobile number of the visit leader, that you know when the coach leaves for home, and where to board it.
