Play Folk Music
We are a group of musicians who enjoy playing together. Our music of choice is 'folk', a term taken very widely both in terms of the type of tune and its origins. We'll happily tackle airs, jigs, marches, hornpipes, polkas and reels, whether English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh or from foreign traditions. Most tunes we play are available to members via Dropbox.
Our abilities vary; each of us still hope to improve our playing, our sight-reading or learning 'by ear'. Sadly, we are not able to accept absolute beginners, who might be better to try one of the 'learn to play an instrument' groups and join us later. We do not sing.
If you have any skill at all on a musical instrument do join us. To date we've seen banjo, bassoon, bodhran, cello, concertina, fiddle, flute, guitar, mandolin, melodeon, recorder, small pipes and whistle. We pay £2 each visit for use of the meeting site, and can buy a hot or cold drink or snack.
We normally meet at Ripon Rugby Club, off Mallorie Park Drive**, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 2-4pm. Dates may change because of holidays. We'd love to have you join us to play or just listen over a cup or glass of something. You can contact Ian Stalker by email: istalker22@gmail.com to find out more.
**The Rugby Club is accessed from Mallorie Park Drive, about 400 metres west of the lights at the foot of High Skellgate. Turn right at the small Postbox, past the football club gate and into the large Rugby Club car park.
