Russian Literature
We have met monthly since the Ripon U3A was formed; reading over 61 books! We have read books, ALL IN ENGLISH, by Chekhov, Lermontov, Pushkin, Gogol, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Schedrin, Turgenev, Goncharov, Akhmatova, Gorky, Bely, Bulgakov, Sholokhov, Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, Kurkov, Makine, Akunin, Grossman, Barnes, Dunmore, Dubois and Zamyatin to name but a few! Following reading, we meet at the Ripon Spa Hotel to discuss the book and the background / history of the period. Our forward reading schedule for the remainder of 2018 includes books by Tolstoy, Finn/Couvee, Bulgakov, Gorky and Grossman.
I have a number of background books on the history of Russia which is always useful! The only expense is the book assuming it cannot be obtained from the library, or I have a copy! You are welcome to come and join our group, or miss some books and rejoin later to suit.
