10.00–12.00 Second & fourth Wednesdays monthly
The game is played in accordance with the rules of the British Mah Jong Association.
In October 2009 the then groups organiser asked the current Leader to start up a Mah Jong group. A non-playing member of Elmbridge U3A offered the use of her back room. Due to space limitations there can only be a maximum of twelve people playing at any one time, in groups of three or four. Players in a group are chosen at random and stay together for the session. If only five people attend then members will sit out a game in turn.
There are currently thirteen people on the register, one being on extended sick leave. Attendance is excellent, members only being absent due to holidays or sickness. This gives rise to a varied number attending but only on two occasions over the years has a meeting been abandoned due to not enough people coming. Each member attempts to improve their game and try more difficult forms of play called ‘special hands’."
