The Hersham Table Tennis groups all play at St Peter's Church Hall Hersham. They variously meet on alternate Mondays from 14:30 to 16:30 and alternate Wednesdays from 12:30 or 13:45. They currently have 58 members and split into four. There are usually between 12-14 per group per session. A waiting list operates if all groups are full.
We started playing Table Tennis in the nineties to provide members with an opportunity to pick up a sport that many are familiar with and have played over the years. In recent years there has been publicity about the benefits of table tennis to senior citizens, that is development of hand/eye coordination, mobility, physical fitness and mental stimulation. This has led to an increase in the sport’s popularity.
There are four subgroups, each with its own team Leader. Each has a ceiling of about twenty registered players at any given time. Applicants should have some knowledge and experience of the sport, rather than being a complete beginner. Games are predominately doubles to allow for more playing time. We now have three table tennis tables which enables us to take on new members. A subscription (currently £3 per session) is payable to cover charges for the Hall.
The Groups are handled together for funding, standards, and collective activity.
There is a possibility of setting up further coaching for those interested.
