If you wish to join always supply your membership number. If you are not a member please remember to include your telephone number.
The group is up and running but would welcome some more members. Would be participants must have registered with the group, must have booked in advance and must have accepted the then prevailing rules.
The group's members agree when and where it will meet but the initial plan is to do so on Wednesdays, bi-weekly.
A friendly group, cycling for pleasure not perspiration. Mainly off-road, mountain bikes or hybrid preferable
Elmbridge U3A cycling group - a message from the group's Leader
A few notes that I hope are useful to our group.
If you intend riding on one of our outings could you make the group leader aware in advance. We will have a pre ride chat to discuss the ride giving you plenty of time for your input. Remember the rides are for pleasure and not intended to become a race and are not intensive in their nature, think fun.
Cycling is not dangerous but it is important that we all recognise that we have a duty of care to each other and to keep ourselves safe.
All those participating in our rides do so at their own risk
You may bring along a guest occasionally but regular riders must be members. Please bear in mind that only members of U3A are covered by the U3A liability insurance and that that is for Public Liability only. If you want personal accident insurance this would be your responsibility.
Useful notes:
Make sure your bike is safe, check brakes etc:
Helmets personal choice
Carry spare tube or puncture outfit and a pump.
Do not pass the Leader at any time, remember it is not a race
If we are on a road keep to single file, call out if you want to stop and give yourself plenty of room
If we go up hills do not be worried about keeping up. The group will wait at the top or will do so at regular intervals
Remember it is not a race, it is fun
We intend to make use of towpaths and parks such as Bushy, Richmond and Windsor and we will agree on meeting points i.e. car parks where the ride will begin.
It is useful if we share mobile numbers so that we can keep in touch both on the ride and if there is a problem getting to the meet.
We will try to arrange a ride for every other Thursday, commencing on 16th May. Details will be sent to your email addresses giving details of the ride and route. Please contact the group leader by email if you are riding so that we do not waste time waiting around.
