If you are trying to add more exercise in your life, joining our English Folk Dancing Club may be the answer. As well as improving your fitness, dancing improves your balance and co-ordination. Also, the mental exercise involved keeps your mind young, quick and alert. it is also a sociable activity and great fun.
We are a friendly group who enjoy dancing. If you have been to a Barn Dance you will have experienced a similar style of dancing to ours, but we have a greater variety of moves and it is usually not so boisterous.
A caller leads the evening. Dances are walked through 2 or 3 times without music to practice the moves and it is then danced. The caller continues to give instructions over the music, so that hopefully everyone keeps together.
Beginners are most welcome, and the dancing is fairly straightforward to learn, so come on your own, or with friends, as people often change partners for each dance.
All you need are soft shoes, comfortable clothing and a zest for a new challenge.
For Elmbridge u3a members the first two evenings are free. There is then a small annual membership fee and a small weekly charge.
There are two Clubs. Molesey Folk Dancing Club meets on a Friday evening, 8-10.15pm at St Peter's Church Hall in Molesey. Claygate Folk Dancing Club meets in St Nicholas Church Hall, Thames Ditton, on Thursday evenings, 8-10.15 pm
Please note that the Folk Dancing Clubs are not affiliated to the u3a and members of them are not covered by u3a's insurance.
