The concert will be introduced and conducted by Bob Porter, the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London’s Artistic Director. It is a ‘free’ chapel or ‘peculiar’, not falling within any bishop’s jurisdiction, but remaining within the Church of England. It is the last surviving building of a hospital founded by Henry VII for homeless people in 1512. It is a beautiful, intimate space for concerts with a fine acoustic and splendid Walker organ.

1:30 p.m. - Other fings wot I have done - Anne Chance

A humorous look back at things that Anne has done with her life from humble beginnings living in Balham to being awarded an OBE three years ago for work she has done for physically disabled children.

Anne has been an adventurer all her life and finds it hard to accept defeat. Having tried Scuba-diving and Paragliding she decided to learn to fly and was awarded her wings at Biggin Hill at the age of 56. Not content with that, in her 60s she learned to ride a horse because she had an urge to take part in a genuine American cowboy cattle drive – which she later did three times in different States. A popular figure on the speaker circuit, Anne has been variously described as ‘hilarious’ and ‘A force of Nature!’

1:30 p.m. - The real Wolf Hall - Tracy Borman

Hilary Mantel’s 2009 novel ‘Wolf Hall’ on the life and times of Henry VIII’s ill-fated protégé Thomas Cromwell was a publishing and television sensation of the time. But that was fiction. Tracy Borman will tell us the real story, based on historical research into a world of intrigue, power politics and treachery.

Tracy Borman is a historian and author, most widely known for ‘Elizabeth’s Women’ the story of the powerful women who influenced Queen Elizabeth I, and, her subject for today, ‘Thomas Cromwell, the untold story’. Reviled as a Machiavellian schemer who would stop at nothing in his quest for power, Thomas Cromwell was in his private life a loving husband and father as well as a loyal and devoted servant to his Monarch. Those with an interest in this turbulent period of English history will find this a fascinating session.
