1:30 p.m. - The real Wolf Hall - Tracy Borman

Hilary Mantel’s 2009 novel ‘Wolf Hall’ on the life and times of Henry VIII’s ill-fated protégé Thomas Cromwell was a publishing and television sensation of the time. But that was fiction. Tracy Borman will tell us the real story, based on historical research into a world of intrigue, power politics and treachery.

Tracy Borman is a historian and author, most widely known for ‘Elizabeth’s Women’ the story of the powerful women who influenced Queen Elizabeth I, and, her subject for today, ‘Thomas Cromwell, the untold story’. Reviled as a Machiavellian schemer who would stop at nothing in his quest for power, Thomas Cromwell was in his private life a loving husband and father as well as a loyal and devoted servant to his Monarch. Those with an interest in this turbulent period of English history will find this a fascinating session.
