Modern World History
MODERN WORLD HISTORY
We meet once a month on the 4th Wednesday afternoon at the Larruperz. Even though the group is quite large (almost 40) new members can still be accommodated as the room is large too.
In 2013 this group started with its focus on 20th century history but in the last few years we have expanded to include anything since 1500. We have steadily moved back in time so that presentations are now mostly 19th or 20th century but gradually earlier periods are being included. We cover all countries and all sorts of History – political, social, cultural, military, etc – anything mankind does has a history.
We listen to presentations given by members of the group. This is not compulsory but we like to encourage people to research and present something and help is given to do this. Each session ends with a discussion of issues and sharing experiences where relevant.
Next Year (2024) we plan to have talks on ; Modern Turkey, Slavery, Putin, Frank Whittle, Kitchener, Coastal Forces - the "Mosquitos" of the RN, and a Victorian Social History one- Public Health and Housing.
