German Advanced
Convenor: Robert Wall
SUSPENDED AT PRESENT, POSSIBLY UNTIL JUNE. PLEASE REFER TO THIS PAGE FOR UPDATES
The class has been in existence for over 10 years, starting with basic German and moving on with time. As, indeed, have many of our earlier learners, who have been replaced by newcomers. Many bringing with them increased language skills and learning.
At present there are 7 or 8 members with 4 years spent in this settled group. Each making a personal contribution to the common learning environment and experience.
We have read and discussed several short stories, selections form Anne Frank's Diary and various newspaper articles.
We are currently reading and discussing a series of modern detective stories by André Klein for intermediate and more advanced students. These stories are well received by the members who appreciate the up to date and, at times, colloquial German and its delivery. We do not automatically translate everything and use English when comprehension problems occur or to explain points of grammar.
Our aim is to do as much as possible in German. For this reason the group is not suitable for beginners to this language.
