Classical Music Appreciation
Convenor: Stephen Berry
Meeting:1st and 3rd Friday of the month during Term time 13.15 - 14.45
This group explores music through the ages in a programme that will discover the "sounds" of particular musical eras, the influence of political and social events and what makes the music of particular eras unique. Issues such as the development of musical instruments, form, genres, etc are an integral part of this process. Members receive notes after each session. These either summarise the content of the session or offer suggestions for listening - and possibly both!
We welcome new members, whether you have knowledge of "classical" music or would simply like to learn about this vital part of our cultural heritage. We have already decided, however, that "classical" will be interpreted in its broadest sense!
It may occasionally be necessary for us to meet elsewhere; particularly if we decide to meet in July and August during the summer break. Please contact me in advance to confirm.
