READING PLAYS FOR PLEASURE
The main aim is to enjoy reading plays without the stress of having to learn lines or appear in public! However, as time goes on we are gaining in confidence and ability, and who knows what the future will bring? Maybe a rehearsed reading for other u3a members to enjoy, if we can find a suitable short play. There are approximately twelve members in the group at present, and all get a chance to read. We are very fortunate that we are able to borrow sets of plays from Newport Playgoers' library, and there are plenty to choose from. The general idea is to find plays which range from farce and comedy to murder mysteries and classical dramas with a suitable number of characters and not too many men! We only have four men at present so we would welcome more as women often have to take men's parts, but of course we would love to have more women too!. Recent plays have been Murder Mistaken,Time of Your Life, Pack of Lies and Barefoot in the Park, The Corn is Green.
We have also read two plays that were written by our own members.
If you like acting or reading plays, but don't want to learn lines, you will enjoy our sessions on Wednesday afternoons.
