We aim to run our next course in Spring 2024. The course is WEEKLY, for 6 weeks. This will be advertised nearer the time.

Here is a summary of what to expect.
The course is led by Joy Lummis, (Cycling Activator, Be Well Team, Wigan Council), who is a very experienced and friendly ride leader.

Bikes and helmets are available to borrow for free.
A typical progression would be:
Week 1 – using the enclosed football area by the tennis courts.
Bike, clothing and helmet check. Assess riders ability with a warm up and tailor the session to suit. Mounting/dismounting, starting/stopping, emergency stopping, looking over shoulder.
Week 2 – enclosed football area and beyond
Recap. Routine M check, Signalling, riding in pairs. Progressing to 1 mile, traffic free ride.
Week 3 – enclosed football area and beyond
Recap. Riding control at slow speeds, 3 mile ride on the traffic-free paths in Pennington Flash, frequent stops for drinks, catch breath etc.
Week 4 – enclosed football area and beyond
Briefing on group riding technique, communications, describe route. 4 mile traffic-free ride around Pennington Flash
Weeks 5 and 6 - 5 mile rides, off road
On completion we will signpost you to other rides, including beginners, run by established local groups, including Be Well and Let’s Ride.
