Art Appreciation

Our July Group visited the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh Library to view a new exhibition by Lancashire artist Dave Pearson called Return to Byzantium. For 38 years he was a teacher at Manchester School of Art and an obsessive and compulsive painter at his cramped studio in Haslingden, Rossendale. After his death in 2008 more that 20,000 works of art was unearthed at his studio.

It was a very entertaining visit and special thanks went to Helen Stalker who gave us a very interesting insight into his life and work and the Art and Culture projects that are planned for Leigh centre.

We left looking forward to further visits in the future.

THERE WILL BE NO ART APPRECIATION MEETING IN AUGUST DUE TO FAMILY COMMITMENTS.

Our September meeting on Wednesday 5th, will be held at the Miners where we will be having a quiz and an update chat on our 'Arty' collections that we have.

For our October meeting I am planning a visit to the British Ironworks and Shropshire Sculpture Park at Oswestry. Further details will be available during the next month and if you are interested please contact me on the number on the website.
