We have recently completed working through BBC Talk Italian Book 1. The current members are presently fairly comfortable with greetings and introductions, talking about their families, talking about where they live and the work they do ordering food and drink, booking accommodation and tables in restaurants, asking directions, arranging transport, talking about times, days, and dates, shopping for food and essentials.
Whilst various holidays have been taken, a little space was available to do some revision work and listen to some CDs of the spoken word.
We will now commence working our way through BBC Talk Italian Book 2 – it will extend the knowledge already gained from Book 1 – more getting to know people, more gaining local information, more shopping for other things than food, more grammar and more vocabulary.
We have found that writing a brief diary of day to day events useful.
The members should now feel that they are at or reaching an intermediate level of knowledge. Beginning to think in Italian, rather than thinking in English and then translating.
