Canasta
Title: Canasta, Max number: 25, Sessions: Weekly
Facilitators: Sue Walsh and Elaine MacKenzie
Canasta is a card game of the rummy family of games. Although many variations exist, it is most commonly played by four in two partnerships with two standard decks of cards. The rules we will follow are mainly those provided with the cards (see Standard Rules) with a couple of u3a amendments. The cards are special in that they have points values printed on them. Players attempt to make melds of seven cards of the same rank and "go out" by playing all cards in their hand. The winning score, normally accrued over a number of rounds, is 5000 points. Canasta is an easy game to learn but it takes time to master.
Venue: The Monument, 32 Church St, Whitstable CT5 1PH
Day/date/time of sessions: Every Monday starting at 1.45pm and finishing at 4.00pm with a mid-session break for refreshments.
