Canasta 2
Title: Canasta 2, Sessions: Weekly
Facilitators: Mike and Barbara Nay
Canasta is a card game of the rummy family of games. Although many variations exist it is most commonly played by 4 in two partnerships with two standard decks of cards. Tables of 2 and 3 players are sometimes needed to accommodate the precise number attending a session. The rules we will follow are mainly those provided with the cards, with a couple of u3a amendments.
The cards are special in that they have points values printed on them. Players attempt to make melds of seven cards of the same rank and "go out" by playing all cards in their hand. The winning team is the one to score 5000 first, normally accrued over a number of rounds. Canasta is an easy game to learn but takes time to master.
We meet in the restaurant of The Plough, which is normally closed on Mondays. They will supply us with coffee and tea making facilities, asking only a £1 donation to charity from each of us.
Date/Time/Venue: Mondays 1:45 - 4pm, The Plough, 100 St John's Rd, Swalecliffe CT5 2RN
