This outline applies to ‘normal’ circumstances. The Covid19 epidemic means that we have to comply with government guidelines, so please check how these are affecting our normal routine.
Put simply, this group aims to bring together people who enjoy cycling with others.
There are two rides each month:
• The Monday ride is on the first Monday of each month – this is adjusted when Bank Holidays affect the dates. Stewart, the Group co-ordinator, usually leads this ride.
• The Wednesday ride is on the third Wednesday of each month. The Wednesday rides are led by members who volunteer to lead on a route of their choice. Anyone can lead a ride, but Stewart needs to know in advance who this will be. Leading a ride is entirely voluntary.
Our rides emphasise the social element of cycling; we always try to have a coffee stop and usually have a lunch stop towards the end of a ride. We usually cover distances of between 20 and 25 miles, but we don’t aim for high level fitness or high speed! The terrain varies, and we try to use off-main road routes as much as possible. Routes are chosen by the ride leader, but everyone is encouraged to suggest routes. We have a very comprehensive list of routes but between us seem able to come up with new ones on a regular basis.
Each ride has a maximum of 14 people, on a first come, first served basis. A calendar of rides is published two or three months ahead, so that members can opt in to those they want to join. Once a ride has 14, Stewart lets everyone know it’s full. Members are asked to sign up for just one ride per month. If, at the last minute, there are spaces on either ride, everyone will be informed via WhatsApp and invited to sign up.
We communicate with each other by either email or WhatsApp. We prefer WhatsApp for quick communication with everyone in the group. Details of rides e.g. the leader, start time and location of the start, are sent to everyone.
