Poetry
The Poetry Group meet monthly on the second Tuesday morning at 10.30am. During the Pandemic we have had bi monthly Zoom meetings and they have worked quite well. We all improved our technical skills and managed to enjoy the meetings. We were keen, however to resume normal practice and the usual venue is my house. We have had one meeting in August in the garden, and will probably repeat that for September. After then we hope to meet indoors either at my house or in a larger venue according to the members wishes.
A Theme or a particular Poet is chosen each month and members research their own choice of poems. Individuals then recite the 2 or 3 poems they have chosen at the meeting and we talk about the meanings, the messages, the memories they might provoke, the sentiments, sometimes the politics, the spiritual context if appropriate, etc etc. Our choices of poems range across the whole spectrum from Romantics, to Modern, including Shakespeare and even Chaucer, to Pam Eyres, Roger McGough, local folklore, Limericks, and sometimes personal compositions. It is not academic and we always try to end with laughter or a feelgood poem.
