Walking
The walking group has over 50 regular members. Walks are held on the first Wednesday and third Monday of the month.
The walks are generally between 6 to 8 miles but may be longer on occasions. Walks are usually on paths and tracks with a variety of terrains including hills and rough ground. Walking boots and waterproof outwear are essential and you need to bring a packed lunch and a drink. We will highlight when a walk is longer and/or more difficult than normal.
We meet at 10.15 for a 10.30 start unless advised differently. Group members are expected to arrange their own transport and we encourage car sharing.
Group members are encouraged to suggest and lead walks. Help will be given if you are not an experienced walker.
Brief details of the date and location of walks are on the bi-monthly Oldham and District U3A Newsletter. We issue a 6 monthly programme to group members and send out a reminder notice for each walk about a week before the walk is due to take place. As we have no control over the weather walks may vary from the information issued but the advised meeting place and time will not vary.
Walkers are responsible for their own Health and Safety and the safe keeping of their equipment, clothing and belongings. Participants on walks should follow the advice/instructions of the Walk Leader in order to minimise any risk to themselves and should also ensure that they do not endanger any others in the party. You need to exercise your own judgement as to whether a walk is suitable for your health and fitness levels.
